Link does what it says on the tin.  I am happy to talk more about it until I am Andorian blue in the face with anyone here (or at tumblr if you're there and want to msg me), and I'll admit right now that for all my complaints, there were a lot of things that were lovely and right.

It's just, right now I can't see past Pike's death and all the sexist, racist bullshit, that and the fact that Abrams & Co. never saw a recycled storyline they didn't like to be able to really do a "Things I loved about the new movie, in depth," post.

Thank you, I love you.

I'll be honest, I have NOT watched the movie because I became epically pissed at Cumberbatch as Khan. I was willing to try it if he was truly an original bad guy (like the Abrams group had promised.) I could have even stretched my imagination to seeing him as Gary. But he epically fails at being an Indian Genetically Engineered Super Being (who is not supposed to have healing blood! If Khan had healing blood he would have healed Marla McGivers who he had grown to love.)

I have been yelling for Joss Wheadon to be handed the reigns after the first movie. I enjoyed the first movie, but imagining it in the hands of a fellow Trekkie makes my nipples perky.

Anyhoo, I'm not giving any of my hard earned money to the butt muncher who continuously ass rapes a well established fandom and the older fans of said fandom. We're not teenagers, we don't need for things to go boom and for men to be dicks. I'll watch it (and probably cry over it and watch ST:WOK right after.) when it hits redbox.

I'll just sit back and squee over the upcoming premier of Season Three of Teen Wolf. (Because Jeff Davis and MTV actually cares about fans! Even us crazy ones who want something more for Stiles... Derek)

Saw it this afternoon. Overall I enjoyed it, but yes, there were some issues...

Cumberbatch had the proper intensity for the role, but it wasn't delivered properly--or something; yes, I would agree that race matters, at least a little bit.

I did spend about 5 seconds wondering why the Tribbles hadn't taken over the ship!

Yeah, what about Section 31?! Enterprise better be armed with some o' that!

Costuming: if the timing was right, I would accuse Abrams of practicing for Star Wars, since an awful lot of the uniforms (esp with that cap and the grey and the high collars) made me think of Imperial officers. But I think this was in the can or in the editing stages when all that went down. And then there was the wild variations as well. I can tell you, my Navy dad didn't have so many so-very-different uniforms.

Kirk was always a hound--he liked the ladies and they liked him. I had no problems with them displaying that. Although it would be nice to see more female bridge personnel with a mouth than just Uhura (who was a complete and utter bada**. Always a pleasure). Dr Marcus--future Mrs Kirk?--also excellent.

Pike--well, I was surprised to see him up & about. Frankly, I figured he was out for the count, as in TOS. Even though Kirk needed the verbal spanking, I knew he would get his ship back . James T Kirk as a First Officer? Oh please! So RIP, Capt Pike. May your ghost keep Kirk mostly on the straight & narrow.

Whedon would be fun, but as part of his contract, he would have to agree not to kill off the main cast!

And I agree--the next movie (is Abrams contracted to ST & SW or just SW?) should be exploration. Sadly, my husband & I both agree it's likely to be war with the Klingons instead.

EDIT: started your tumblr hashtag on G+: #givestartrektowhedon

Haven't seen it yet, but I read all the spoilers once I knew who the villain was because I no longer gave a damn. Other than the extremely problematic casting, which, yes, Abrams & Co. DO deserve to be called out on, it just screams lazy storytelling. I can't muster much enthusiasm.

I have so very much to say, bb. But I'm on my phone.

I will return and fill this dratted comment box like I have been doing over gtalk ever since I walked out of the theater.

Damn you, Abrams. Damn you and your lazy ass writers and your trope-laden Star Wars fetish.

i Love your brain!!!

there are several versions of the movie i would pay significant amounts of money to see.

top of the list is the one with the space shopping, language mastery, bitching earrings, science talk and Kirk being competent.

however, seriously jostling for first place with the one where Bones sorts out the absolutely horrendous uniforms.

ok, forget both of these, i want THIS Bones narrates an awesome non-life-threatening operation and tells a story about that time with the donkey and poor friggin’ Chekov and flirts with all the nurses, male, female, and asexual, while wearing the grey surgical short sleeves and the camera slow-pans to give us shots of Karl Urban’s shoulders, forearms, and ass. Then he washes his hands and sits at his desk and drinks bourbon with a smile on his face. , even though it is probably going to give me a heart attack, particularly the hand washing.

at this point, i am so upset about the whole thing, that i will just restrict any further comments on the film; just yes, i, too, thought that it had some really good bits as well as some amazing acting and i said exactly the same about the crew, they just gelled so well.

anyway, thank you for this post, it made me srsly happy.
